Glaser calculator: condensation in envelope elements

Choose the layers of a wall, roof or floor and find out whether condensation appears on the surface or inside the element, using the same functions as the calculation software. Free, no account.

Build-up of the element

Layers, from outside to inside.

Material names and element types are the entries of the Romanian catalogue, as they appear in the regulations.

Calculation conditions

The starting values are the engine defaults: 20 °C and 60 % indoors, −15 °C and 85 % outdoors.

Result

  • Thermal transmittance U of the element: 0.341 W/(m²·K).
  • Condensation on the inner surface: no.
  • Condensation inside the element: no.
  • Amount of condensate, over a simplified condensation period of 180 days: 0 g/(m²·season).

How it is calculated

The Glaser method compares, at each interface between layers, the partial vapour pressure with the saturation pressure. Where the first reaches the second, condensation appears.

The amount of condensation is calculated with equation (8.a) of C 107/6-02, §5.4.1. If you choose the climatic zone (I-IV), the duration of the condensation period is taken from C 107/6-02, Table B.2, as in the Glaser check of the calculation program; without a zone, the calculator uses, as a simplification, 180 days, which is not a value from the normative. Zone V does not appear in C 107/6-02 and stays on the simplification of 180 days, and Table B.2 does not give a value in every situation. A thickness entered without a unit is read as millimetres; «cm» and «m» may be typed.

The result is an indicator. The full condensation check (monthly profile, permissible accumulated moisture) is carried out in the calculation software.

The full report

The monthly profile, the check against the criteria of the normative and the PDF report are in the calculation software, with an account. The trial lasts 30 days, with no card.
